About the Species

The Bronze Bream (Pachymetopon grande) is one of South Africa's most recognisable rocky shore species, admired for its deep, powerful body and distinctive bronze-grey sheen. Found along shallow reefs and wave-swept coastlines, it spends much of its life grazing on marine algae, helping maintain the balance of South Africa's coastal reef ecosystems. Despite its largely vegetarian diet, it is well known to anglers for readily taking natural baits such as prawn, mussel and chokka.

Strong, cautious and remarkably determined once hooked, the Bronze Bream has earned a loyal following among South African shore anglers.
