About the Species

The Garrick (Lichia amia), also known as Leervis, is one of South Africa's most celebrated coastal predators. Recognised by its long, streamlined silver body and deeply forked tail, it patrols surf zones, estuary mouths and rocky shorelines in search of mullet, elf, pinkies and other baitfish. Built for speed and agility, the Garrick is an aggressive hunter that often traps schools of baitfish against the shoreline before launching powerful attacks. Seasonal migrations along the South African coast are closely linked to spawning and the annual sardine run.

Highly prized by anglers for its explosive strikes and determined fight, the Garrick has become an icon of South Africa's surf fishing heritage. Its sleek form and effortless movement through the surf embody the power and elegance of the coastline's marine life. This artwork celebrates one of South Africa's most admired game fish, capturing the speed, grace and timeless beauty that define the PESCADO Collection.
